My Journey: A Lifelong Passion for Film and Theatre

As I reflect on my journey in film and theatre education, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude and excitement for the path that has led me here. My name is Gregory Odhiambo Okello, and I have dedicated my life to the arts, striving to inspire and educate through my experiences across different continents and diverse settings. Early Academic Pursuits My academic journey began in Kenya, where I pursued a degree in Film and Animation from the Multimedia University of Kenya. Graduating in 2015 with second-class upper honors, I laid a strong foundation for my future endeavors, gaining a deep understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of film production and animation. In 2020, I furthered my education at Winona State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies with a GPA of 3.55. My time at Winona was marked by an immersive exploration of film analysis, where I honed my skills in both creative and technical domains. Advanced Studies and Professional Growth My quest for knowledge led me to Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA, where I pursued a Master of Fine Arts in Directing, set to be completed in December 2023. My tenure at Regent University broadened my artistic vision and equipped me with advanced directing skills, further solidifying my expertise in the field. During my time at Regent University, I worked as a Media Services Assistant from September 2021 to December 2023. In this role, I demonstrated exceptional organizational skills by managing the library's catalog, supplies, and equipment records. My meticulous approach to capturing and editing events ensured visually compelling representations that were seamlessly executed. Maintaining AV equipment and resolving technical issues contributed significantly to the smooth execution of presentations and events across the campus. A Year in Kenya: Inspiring the Next Generation In 2018, I had the privilege of returning to Kenya for a pivotal year as an instructor. This period was marked by my dedication to nurturing young talents in film and theatre. My innovative teaching methods and inspiring presence left an indelible mark on my students, many of whom have gone on to pursue successful careers in the arts. Connecting with my students and imparting practical knowledge underscored my effectiveness as an educator. I have been recognized as an award-winning film and theatre instructor, which is a testament to my excellence and impact in the field. My involvement in the Kenya National Drama Festivals has been particularly noteworthy, where I have earned multiple certifications for my outstanding work. These accolades reflect my commitment to fostering a vibrant and dynamic arts culture in Kenya and beyond. Professional Experience in Customer Care Before my tenure at Regent University, I worked as a Customer Care Representative at Charter Communications, Spectrum in Rochester, MN, from July 2020 to July 2021. In this role, I handled high volumes of customer interactions with a positive attitude and a focus on satisfaction. My problem-solving skills and competence in addressing customer needs further highlight my versatility and dedication to excellence in any task I undertake.
